The Frameline solution has been developed with the input of some of the largest media companies in the world. We will expand these customers pages as more and more individuals & organsiations start to benefit from the Frameline solution. In the meantime, here's some background on how our development projects helped form the Frameline Solution.

Legacy Asset Re-Purposing

Star Trek Navigator prototype

vds worked with Paramount Pictures over a period of six months to study the opportunities provided by re-purposing legacy media assets (old TV shows). vds produced a prototype called Star Trek Navigator, based on our encyclopedic media deconstruction concepts. Condensed & interactive versions of both Star Trek (The Original Series) & Mission Impossible were produced by vds using the narrative deconstruction principles developed by us whilst creating Frameline.

Live Asset Re-Purposing

One of the most exciting aspects of the Frameline Project, is the software's ability to create interactive navigable video-based multimedia from an input of flat linear footage. This powerful functionality had its conceptual seed in SoapWorld, developed for Freemantle Media (formerly Pearsons) to expand the reach & audience of its hugely popular teen soap Neighbours.

Interactive navigation tool SoapWorld

The streaming-based Soapworld prototype, built around the Neighbours property, enabled users to watch condensed three minute versions of episodes, or watch an entire month in only 60 minutes. Users could also watch individual characters, or follow particular plot lines. The SoapWorld model has been subsequently refined to enable content owners to deliver this highly sticky new media simply by tagging up individual episodes using Frameline.

Volume Media Production

Volume Media Production

vds worked with Granada Media on a study into volume soap production. Using the company's Night & Day property as a live test case, the company assessed how a media asset managment system could help reduce the costs & chaos of multi-episodic, multi crew volume productions. The results of the study revealed a number of potential cost savings & efficiencies that Granada could introduce into future productions.

Media Library Consolidation

Oxford Scientific Film came to vds with a very familiar asset managment problem; nearly 80% of the revenue from their world famous footage library was derived from only 2% of their footage. The problem was that with more than 10,000 hours of footage, an old & poorly populated database with no pictures or clips, the company were no longer able to effectively distribute their footage. Because they could not identify their own assets, and had begun only to sell the best selling footage, they drastically reducing the distribution potential of this stunning archive. Working with OSF enabled vds to further develop the Frameline content schema.

Broadcast Registration Initiative

As a Broadcaster, Channel 4 Television (UK), have a unique set of media asset management issues. vds's challenge was to come up with a MAM strategy by which the channel's numerous producers could share the burden of the huge ongoing ingest process faced by the company. vds produced a conceptual framework for the company that outlines a potential way forward.
